We have officially reached the midpoint of the 2025 regular season in the AOA. Thus far we have three managers who have separated themselves from the field, two who are barely hanging on to their playoff lives, and three other managers jockying in the middle of the standings for what could be just one playoff spot if everything else holds firm.
We'll start this week's recap the same way we did in Week 5, this time with a look back at team stats through the first half of the season. You can use that link to see how the teams were faring in these categories at that time.
Players of the Week
Catcher - Cal Raleigh, 15.75 points (Stephen April)
1st Baseman - Pete Alonso, 7.20 points (Eric Meyer)
2nd Baseman - Jose Altuve, 7.35 points (Cory Frontin)
3rd Baseman - Jose Ramirez, 11.75 points (Cory Frontin)
Shortstop - Elly De La Cruz, 10.60 points (Eric Meyer)
OF - James Wood, 12.30 points (Sam Martin)
UTIL - Shohei Ohtani, 11.60 points (Sam Martin)
SP - Hunter Brown, 21.10 points (Sam Martin)
RP - Edwin Diaz, 12.75 points (Cory Frontin)
Cal Raleigh claimed his third straight Mike Piazza Award and his seventh of the season. It's the second time this year he's led all catchers in three consecutive weeks, but this was by far his highest point total in a single matchup.
Pete Alonso has now won four Paul Goldschmidt Awards this year for Eric, while his teammate Elly De La Cruz won the first Barry Larkin Award of his career. He won six Wade Boggs Awards as a third baseman for Sean Kennedy last season.
Despite being handed his eighth loss of the season, Cory Frontin had three positional award winners this week. Altuve claimed his second straight Ryne Sandberg Award, and his third of the season; Ramirez also earned his third Wade Boggs Award of the campaign; and Edwin Diaz won the Eric Gagne Award for just the second time in his career, his last one coming with Sean Kennedy back in 2022.
Sam Martin claimed the remaining three positional awards in Week 10, with James Wood claiming his second career Mike Trout Award, both coming this year, Ohtani winning his fourth Hal McRae Award of the year, all of them coming in the past five weeks, and Hunter Brown winning the Bobby Witt Award for the second time this campaign.
All-time H2H: Stephen leads series 4-1
In a true back-and forth contest, Stephen led by five after the first day of the contest, then two days later Eric jumped out to a sizeable advantage, leading by 18.5 points.
By Friday, the two were even again. Saturday was explosive for both managers as both were right around 30 points for the day. When Stephen outscored Eric by just over three points on Sunday, that was the game.
There are a handful of reasons this game went the way it did, but it’s worth noting Eric’s batting average for the week was nearly 100 points higher than Stephen’s, and his OPS was 140 points higher. Additionally, Eric’s ERA was less than half Stephen’s and his WHIP was more than 300 points lower.
The biggest issue for Eric was volume. His pitchers totaled 20 fewer innings than Stephen’s as Eric used only three of his seven allotted pitcher starts.
Stephen's top scorer: Cal Raleigh, 15.75 points (6 games)
Eric's top scorer: Felix Bautista, 11.80 points (3 relief appearances)
All-time H2H: Sam leads series 11-1
Sean's top scorer: Hunter Brown, 21.10 points (2 starts)
Alex's top scorer: Carlos Rodon, 12.30 points (1 start)
All-time H2H: Cory P leads series 14-2
Cory F's top scorer: Edwin Diaz, 12.75 points (3 relief appearances)
Cory P's top scorer: Framber Valdez, 13.75 points (1 start)
All-time H2H: Sean leads series 3-3
Rich's top scorer: Garrett Crochet, 19.80 points (2 starts)
Sean's top scorer: Kevin Gausman, 15.50 points (2 starts)
Rich earned his 12th career #1 power ranking and ninth of the season.
Cory Frontin, meanwhile, is at the bottom of the power rankings for a record 24th time in his career, eight of them coming this season.
