Education & Training
Cory is a proud Class of 2010 alum of DeMatha Catholic High School and earned his B.A. in Communication Studies from the University of Maryland University College (now UMGC).
Prior to completing his undergraduate studies at UMGC, Cory attended the University of Maryland - College Park on a cross country scholarship. When the school's athletic department cut several sports, his was among them. Which his athletic career over, Cory joined two fellow DeMatha alums to form the All-Sports Crew in September 2012, a sports talk show on WMUC Sports. Later, they added the more specialized Football Freaks talk show to their catalogue.
In addition to his work as the lead host and producer for the All-Sports Crew and Football Freaks, Cory joined WMUC Sports director Ryan Wormeli in the broadcast booth, serving as color commentator covering the AUDL's DC Breeze in the spring of 2014 for all of their home games played at the university's Field Hockey and Lacrosse Complex.
Sports Fandom
A die-hard New York Yankees fan, Cory otherwise spent most of his youth a loyal follower of D.C. sports teams. Now he's more of a journeyman sports fan.
When the Montreal Expos relocated and became the Washington Nationals in 2005, Cory picked them up as a second team and followed them fairly closely for the next decade or so. He couldn't celebrate their 2019 World Series title, however, as he had lost interest in the team a couple years prior.
A big fan of the Wizards as a child, Cory's interest in the NBA was already waning by the time Flip Saunders took over as head coach of the second worst team in the 2008-09 season. They briefly regained his interest under Randy Whittman when they made back-to-back conference semifinal appearances, but he does not consider himself a fan of the team today.
A casual hockey fan, Cory really only watches in the playoffs, and then only if the Capitals are playing as they are definitely his team of choice.
As for the NFL, Cory's favorite professional sport, he spent the first 25 years of his life a loyal fan of Washington's professional football team. As headlines regularly drew an unhealthy picture of the team's culture, Cory's interest in the team waned, ending completely in 2021 after they used Sean Taylor's memory to distract from unflattering media reports of the organization's treatment of women in the workplace with a half-hearted, 1-minute half-time ceremony to retire his number.
Beginning in 2019, he began rooting casually for teams featured on Hard Knocks when their storylines intrugued him. Then, in 2022, Hard Knocks went to Detroit and he fell in love with the new coaching regime and a number of the players. He now considers himself a full-fledged Lions fan.
Cory tends to be the most experimental of our three hosts when it comes to watching sports outside of the Big 4. He has watched all or most of every Tour de France since 2011 and offers detailed stage-by-stage breakdowns on the podcast every July.
Beyond the Show
Cory returned to his high school alma mater in 2016 as an intern, taking over DeMatha's cross country program that fall. A 3-time individual conference champion in the sport as a high schooler, he was inducted to DeMatha's Hall of Fame in November 2022, the day after leading the team to its first WCAC title since his freshman year in 2006.
In addition to serving as the school's head cross country coach, Cory leads DeMatha's broadcast and print journalism programs and is the lead broadcaster of every home football and basketball game on DM Stags TV.
Cory married his wife, Rishonda, in July of 2022. Eric and Evan made up half of his groom squad for the special day.
