This Week’s Results (overall record):
November 25, 2025: Hawks 113, Wizards 132 (2-15)
November 28, 2025: Wizards 86, Pacers 119 (2-16)
December 1, 2025: Bucks 126, Wizards 129 (3-16)
Yes, you read that correctly. The Wizards played three games this week and only lost one! They throttled the Hawks with ya boy in attendance and with pajama pants in hand to start the week, and then finished off the week with a spirited comeback effort while shorthanded against the Bucks, avenging their season-opening loss.
The Zards didn't lose complete perspective, however. They weaved in a tank-tastic loss to Indiana, elevating them to a three win team and keeping Washington at the bottom of the conference. It was an ugly, uninspired effort, but in a week like this, let's focus on counting our wins (yes, plural! We won two games in a week!)
CJ Came to Play
I’ve been hard on CJ McCollum for most of the season on account of his poor play and lack of on-court leadership, but there have been occasions this year where he’s shown some of the scoring prowess that has made him such a successful NBA player for nearly 15 years. That ability nearly carried the Wizards to a road win against Detroit a few weeks ago, and it popped again this week as he was decisively the best player in both of Washington’s victories this week, knocking down a franchise record 10 threes on Tuesday while hitting some clutch shots late last night to push the Wizards to a tight victory against Milwaukee.
I wish I had something interesting to show you regarding McCollum’s recent surge, but frankly, he’s playing the same style that he has all year. The pull-up threes that were pissing me off two weeks ago have been falling lately, even if the shot selection leaves something to be desired.
Still, having a player that can heat up is a major bonus. There are few guys who can get it going like CJ had it this week, and his streakiness can be as compelling as it is frustrating. I like this version of McCollum, and hopefully he sticks around for a little while longer.
Khris Middleton, Playmaker?
Middleton has been in and out of the lineup this year, as the oft-injured veteran is one of the load management leaders of the NBA at this point in his career.
This week was hard evidence that Vukcevic is not an NBA-level big man. I knew the Wizards would miss Sarr, but I never figured Marvin Bagley was that much better of an option than Vuk. The kid just doesn't have the tools for this level, and even the lowly Wizards need to have some standards. It's time to cut bait and move on.
Up Next
It's Zards night! I'll be attending tonight's game against the Hawks and hopefully securing some snazzy pajama pants with my fellow masochists. After that, the Wiz head to Indianapolis for a possibly winnable contest Friday night. They'll get the rest of the weekend off before hosting Milwaukee on Monday.
Before I sign off for the week, I wanted to wish anyone who actually powered through this a Happy Thanksgiving. Tell your family and friends you love them, watch some football, eat some good food, and enjoy the lack of Wizards basketball. As always, I'll be back next Tuesday.
