This Week’s Results (overall record):
December 12, 2025: Cavaliers 130, Wizards 126 (3-19)
December 14, 2025: Wizards 108, Pacers 89 (4-20)
With only two games last week, the Wizards nearly pulled off the impossible by going undefeated! They blew a 15 point 4th quarter lead against Donovan Mitchell and the Cavs on Friday night before heading to Indy and beating on a woeful pacers team to split the week and now sit at a groovy 4-20. Unsurprisingly, this record has the Wizards at the bottom of the NBA standings.
Bub Has a Big Game!
Bub Carrington has been a topic of concern for Wizards fans as the sophomore guard from Pitt has struggled to get a lot going early in this season. That changed for the better on Friday night when Bub dropped 27 points and hit 5 threes in the Wizards' spirited but ultimately doomed effort against Cleveland. He also dished out 8 assists with just one turnover in an effort that led to everyone asking, "Is Bub back?"
Carrington's big night was fueled by his signature midrange game. He knocked down 4 of 5 pull-up jumpers from inside the arc. His first middie came off a screen and roll set where he pulls up from the top of the key and beats the slight drop coverage that Cleveland employed.
Bub also showed some adept footwork while attacking this closeout. Despite a poor pass to his right, Bub adjusts and quickly jab-steps left to move the defender and create space before a one dribble pull-up for a beautiful midrange bucket.
These are the types of buckets we want to see from Bub: playing in rhythm, attacking with confidence, and reliably knocking down jumpers. I mentioned earlier this year that Carrington's 3 point shot had improved, and that has continued as Bub has shot 41% from beyond the arc this season.
I still have some concern about Bub's inability to get to the basket, however. He only attempted two shots at the rim Monday night out of 20, and went 1 for 2 on those attempts. Rim pressure is what drives offense in the NBA, and Bub needs to find ways to get downhill if he wants to be a primary ballhandler. That said, he's still a 20-year-old NBA player and it's good to see him playing with confidence again.
Up Next
The Wizards will travel to San Antonio on Thursday before playing a weekend back-to-back, heading to Memphis Saturday and then hosting the Spurs Sunday evening. Hopefully Wemby doesn't kill us (figuratively). Hopefully Ja doesn't try literally.
Seriously, screw Ja.
See ya next Tuesday.
