Shoutout to the top performers of Week 7! Seven entrants finished with 10 wins, and Lilymariee* won with a very impressive total of 13 correct picks out of 15 games.
This year we are hosting our pick'em contest on Sleeper, and just because you missed the first three weeks doesn't mean you can't still join and try to catch the pack.
Let's get to our concensus misses and lone wolf picks from Week 8.
*If you want to be shouted out by name, be sure to let us know who you are!
This week featured two games where the three of us were in agreement and went down with the ship together. Those games were:
Chicago Bears at Baltimore Ravens (-6.5) - All three Sportsballers took the points. When the line was set, Lamar Jackson was expected to make his return from injury. Instead it was Tyler Huntley who still led the Ravens to a 14-point victory over their visitors.
Pool results: 28% took BAL
San Francisco 49ers at Houston Texans (-1.5) - All three Sportsballers took the point and a half on the 49ers. It might be time to put a little more faith in the Texans, who were on the right side of the spread for the final 54:35 of game time.
Pool results: 6% took HOU
We also had several games where one of us went off the beaten path. Here are those games and whether our lone wolf got the kill or unexpectedly found himself as the prey:
Minnesota Vikings at Los Angeles Chargers (-3.5) - Evan was the lone member of the Sportsballers to get this game wrong due to him not putting a pick in for the Thursday night game.
Pool results: 52% took LAC
Miami Dolphins at Atlanta Falcons (-7.5) - Evan was the lone member of the Sportsballers to lay the points on the Falcons, despite the big spread and the injury to Michael Penix giving Kirk Cousins his first start of the season. Even with his left eye swollen almost shut, Tua Tagovailoa led the Dolphins to a 34-10 route of the dirty birds.
Pool results: 13% took MIA
Buffalo Bills (-7.5) at Carolina Panthers - Eric was the lone member of the Sportsballers to take the points and he wasn't even close to getting this one right. Buffalo routed the home team 40-9 as James Cook eclipsed 200 yards on the ground on less than 20 carries.
Pool results: 84% took BUF
New York Jets at Cincinnati Bengals (-6.5) - Eric was the lone member of the Sportsballers to lay the points on the 3-4 Bengals at home against the 0-7 Jets. If anything, it's surprising he was alone, but it worked out for the other two Sportsballers co-hosts as the Jets got their first victory of the season.
Pool results: 25% took NYJ
Cleveland Browns at New England Patriots (-7.5) - Eric was the lone member of the Sportsballers to lay the points, and this time he came out on the right side as the Patriots took an easy 32-13 victory, thanks in large part to a 21-point third quarter explosion.
Pool results: 78% took NE
New York Giants at Philadelphia Eagles (-7.5) - Evan was the lone member of the Sportsballers to lay the points. While the Giants kept it close through the entirety of the first half, Philly finally pushed their lead beyond the spread with 25 seconds left in the second quarter and Evan barely had to sweat the rest of the contest.
Pool results: 47% took PHI
Tampa Bay Buccaneers (-6.5) at New Orleans Saints - Eric was the lone member of the Sportsballers to take the points, homering on his Saints. Baker Mayfield improved to 4-1 in his career against New Orleans and the 'Aints' got blown out at home by 20 points.
Pool results: 82% took TB
Dallas Cowboys at Denver Broncos (-3.5) - Eric was the lone member of the Sportsballers to lay the points. It worked out as the Cowboys couldn't even do what the Giants did last week and make a competitive game of it, suffering a 44-24 loss.
Pool results: 47% took DEN
Green Bay Packers (-3.5) at Pittsburgh Steelers - Eric was the lone member of the Sportsballers to lay the points on the road team on Sunday night. It didn't look good for him entering the final quarter, but with four unanswered scoring drives in the first 11 minutes of the quarter, the Packers opened up a lead that even a later Steelers touchdown couldn't threaten.
Pool results: 39% took GB
Washington Commanders at Kansas City Chiefs (-10.5) - Eric was the lone member of the Sportsballers to lay the points. The spread was too steep for his co-hosts and they paid the price for their lack of vision as the home team scored 21 unanswered points in the final 30 minutes after entering halftime deadlocked.
Pool results: 56% took KC
