Shoutout to the top performers of Week 6! Two entrants finished with 10 wins, and ZachH12* won with the MNF tiebreaker.
This year we are hosting our pick'em contest on Sleeper, and just because you missed the first three weeks doesn't mean you can't still join and try to catch the pack.
Let's get to our concensus misses and lone wolf picks from Week 7.
*If you want to be shouted out by name, be sure to let us know who you are!
This week featured four games where the three of us were in agreement and went down with the ship together. Those games were:
New Orleans Saints at Chicago Bears (-5.5) - All three Sportsballers took the Saints and the points. A second-half push by the Saints nearly brought the deficit back inside the spread after they'd trailed 20-0, but the Bears scored the last six points of the game to lock it down.
Pool results: 53% took CHI
Las Vegas Raiders at Kansas City Chiefs (-11.5) - All three Sportsballers took the points on the Raiders, not trusting the Chiefs to run away with this one. It was a terrible decision by us and more than half our pool entrants as the Chiefs skunked their division rival.
Pool results: 41% took KC
Green Bay Packers (-6.5) at Arizona Cardinals - All three Sportsballers laid the points on the Packers. Green Bay never led until 114 seconds were left in the game when Josh Jacobs took it in from one yard out to win the game. It wasn't enough to cover the spread, unfortunately for us.
Pool results: 27% took ARI
Atlanta Falcons at San Francisco 49ers (-3.5) - All three Sportsballers took the points on the visiting Falcons. When it took more than 28 minutes of game time for the 49ers to finally get on the board, it felt like it had been a good pick. The Falcons even entered the fourth quarter inside that spread. CMC's second touchdown of the game with 2:31 remaining sealed the deal on our collective miss.
Pool results: 39% took SF
We also had several games where one of us went off the beaten path. Here are those games and whether our lone wolf got the kill or unexpectedly found himself as the prey:
Pittsburgh Steelers (-4.5) at Cincinnati Bengals - Evan was the lone member of the Sportsballers to lay the points on the Steelers. It is the second week in a row he foolishly bet against an underdog at home on Thursday Night Football. Once again, the dog won the game outright and made Evan's co-hosts look like geniuses.
Pool results: 24% took CIN
Miami Dolphins at Cleveland Browns (-2.5) - Evan was the lone member of the Sportsballers to lay the points, and it paid off. Mike McDaniel is right back in the hot seat after an embarrassing 31-6 defeat.
Pool results: 47% took CLE
Carolina Panthers (-1.5) at New York Jets - Evan was the lone member of the Sportsballers to take the points. It was a low scoring game, just 19 points scored between the two teams, but Carolina prevailed by a touchdown.
Pool results: 69% took CAR
New England Patriots (-7.5) at Tennessee Titans - Cory was the lone member of the Sportsballers to take the points on the Titans. With a brand new interim head coach, Cory was hoping the recent trend of success for interims in their first game would hold true. It looked good early but the Pats pulled away in the second half for a 31-13 victory.
Pool results: 81% took NE
Indianapolis Colts at Los Angeles Chargers (-1.5) - Evan was the lone member of the Sportsballers to lay the points. With such a small spread, that meant Cory and Eric were essentially picking a Colts victory, and that's just what happened by a 14-point margin.
Pool results: 76% took IND
Washington Commanders (-2.5) at Dallas Cowboys - Cory was the lone member of the Sportsballers to take the points, and it worked out well for him. Washington led for less than two minutes in a wild first quarter and ultimately got doubled up by their rival.
Pool results: 55% took DAL
Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Detroit Lions (-4.5) - Eric was the lone member of the Sportsballers to lay the points. Whether it was emotional hedging for Cory, or a shared belief by him and Evan that a slew of injuries and a suspension to Detroit's secondary would allow the Bucs passing game to have a field day, neither came to fruition as the Lions won by a comfortable 15-point margin.
Pool results: 33% took DET
