Shoutout to the top performers of Week 3! It was a tough week, with only five entrants hitting double digits against the spread. GRUFF69* won the week outright with 12 correct picks, with friend-of-the-show Sean Kennedy finishing second with 11 correct picks.
This year we are hosting our pick'em contest on Sleeper, and just because you missed the first three weeks doesn't mean you can't still join and try to catch the pack.
Let's get to our concensus misses and lone wolf picks from Week 4.
*If you want to be shouted out by name, be sure to let us know who you are!
This week featured two games where the three of us were in agreement and went down with the ship together. Those games were:
Cleveland Browns at Detroit Lions (-8.5) - All three Sportsballers took the Browns and the points. The NFL's top defense looked excellent last week against Green Bay and we expected them to keep the Lions from having a third straight offensive explosion. We were wrong.
Pool results: 79% took DET
Tennessee Titans at Houston Texans (-7.5) - All three Sportsballers took the Titans and the points. The Texans were too big of favorites for an 0-3 team, or so we thought. Their 26-0 victory proved otherwise.
Pool results: 46% took HOU
We also had a few games where one of us went off the beaten path. Here are those games and whether our lone wolf got the kill or unexpectedly found himself as the prey:
Minnesota Vikings (-2.5) at Pittsburgh Steelers - Eric was the lone member of the Sportsballers to lay the points. The Vikings fought back from a big deficit but couldn't get the victory, let along cover the spread.
Pool results: 35% took PIT
Carolina Panthers at New England Patriots (-5.5) - Eric was the lone member of the Sportsballers to lay the points here, as well. The Pats opened it up in the second quarter, taking a 22-point lead into halftime that they never looked back from.
Pool results: 55% took NE
Los Angeles Chargers (-6.5) at New York Giants - Eric was again the lone wolf for the Sportsballers, laying the points for the road team. The Bolts never even led and Justin Herberts remains unable to beat the allegations.
Pool results: 13% took NYG
Philadelphia Eagles (-3.5) at Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Eric was unafraid of most favorites' lines this week, and he laid the points here, too. The Eagles opened up a pretty big advantage in the first half. The Bucs made it a game in the end, but lost by nearly double the points they were getting.
Pool results: 46% took PHI
Jacksonville Jaguars at San Francisco 49ers (-4.5) - Cory was the lone member of the Sportsballers to lay the points on the 3-0 49ers against the 2-1 Jags. He paid the price as the Jaguars won the game outright thanks to one awful performance by Brock Purdy, fresh back from injury.
Pool results: 23% took JAC
Indianapolis Colts at Los Angeles Rams (-3.5) - Evan was the lone member of the Sportsballers to lay the points on this one. The Colts kept is close through most of the game but ultimately lost by a touchdown.
Pool results: 51% took LAR
Chicago Bears (-1.5) at Las Vegas Raiders - Cory was the lone member of the Sportsballers to lay the points on the road team after Caleb Williams had his best day as a pro in Week 3. There was no repeat performance, and while the Bears did wind up winning, they managed to do so while not covering the line thanks to a failed 2-point conversion in the game's final minutes.
Pool results: 46% took LV
Green Bay Packers (-7.5) at Dallas Cowboys - Eric was the lone member of the Sportsballers who was not afraid to lay more than a touchdown to take the road team in Prime Time. Dallas trailed by double digits for about 10 minutes in the second quarter then never trailed by more than 4 points on the way to playing overtime.
Pool results: 30% took DAL
New York Jets at Miami Dolphins (-2.5) - Evan was the lone member of the Sportsballers who took the points and picked the road team. The Jets kept it respectable but trailed by double digits on four separate occasions and never got within the spread after the Dolphins took a 3-0 lead just over four minutes into the game.
Pool results: 43% took MIA
