Shoutout to the top performers of Week 1! Five entrants got 10 games correct, including one who joined after the Thursday and Friday games. BeenJamin18* won the week by default as they were the only one of the five who submitted a tiebreaker prediction. TyreeksTenKids, Colx, and friend of the show Sean Kennedy also got 10 games right. LDUBber tied with them and may very well have won the week outright if they hadn't missed the season's first two games.
This year we are hosting our pick'em contest on Sleeper, and just because you missed Week 1 doesn't mean you can't still join and try to catch the pack.
Let's get to our concensus misses and lone wolf picks from Week 2.
*If you want to be shouted out by name, be sure to let us know who you are!
This week featured # games where the three of us were in agreement and went down with the ship together. Those games were:
Cleveland Browns at Baltimore Ravens (-11.5) - All three Sportsballers took the Browns. The spread was too steep for us, but the 41-17 win for the Ravens easily cleared the spread and made us look like fools.
Pool results: 74% took BAL
Los Angeles Chargers (-3.5) at Las Vegas Raiders - Cory and Evan took the Raiders to cover while Eric never submitted his pick for the Monday night games. The Raiders big win in New England last week fooled us.
Pool results: 82% took LAC
We also had a few games where one of us went off the beaten path. Here are those games and whether our lone wolf got the kill or unexpectedly found himself as the prey:
New York Giants at Dallas Cowboys (-6.5) - Eric was the lone member of the Sportsballers to lay the points. While the Giants losing streak in Dallas continued, they made a game of it with an exciting fourth quarter and overtime period ending with a 40-37 Cowboys victory, not enough to cover the spread.
Pool results: 16% took NYG
Chicago Bears at Detroit Lions (-5.5) - Cory was the lone member of the Sportsballers to take the points, an emotional hedge as he was also taking the Lions straight up. In the end, the Lions routed their former offensive coordinator with a 52-21 runaway victory.
Pool results: 78% took DET
New England Patriots at Miami Dolphins (-1.5) - Evan was the lone member of the Sportsballers to take the points, and it worked out. The Patriots usual woes in Miami did not bare themselves and they took a 33-27 road win against their division rival.
Pool results: 73% took NE
Buffalo Bills (-7.5) at New York Jets - Evan was the lone member of the Sportsballers to lay the points. While Cory and Eric were wooed by the solid offensive performance from Justin Fields and the Jets in Week 1, they were no match for James Cook and the Bills as they fell at 10-30 at home and gave Evan another lone wolf win.
Pool results: 73% took BUF
Seattle Seahawks at Pittsburgh Steelers (-3.5) - Cory was the lone member of the Sportsballers to lay the points, and between an incredible special teams snafu and another bad week from Aaron Rodgers without the benefit of short fields to bail him out he took another lone wolf loss.
Pool results: 33% took SEA
Los Angeles Rams (-5.5) at Tennessee Titans - Evan was the lone member of the Sportsballers to lay the points, a pretty big spread on the road even against a team that is projected to finish at the bottom of the already-woeful AFC South. It worked for him, as the Rams won by two touchdowns.
Pool results: 76% took LAR
Atlanta Falcons at Minnesota Vikings (-4.5) - Evan was the lone member of the Sportsballers to lay the points, and it cost him a share of the lead for the week heading into the Monday night doubleheader as the Falcons took it to the Vikings on the road in a 22-6 smackdown.
Pool results: 56% took ATL
Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Houston Texans (-2.5) - Eric was the lone member of the Sportsballers to get this game wrong due to him not putting a pick in for either Monday night contest.
Pool results: 78% took TB
