After three years of using confidence points for their picks contest, with Evan winning in 2019, Eric winning in 2020, and Cory winning in 2021, our hosts decided to switch things up for the 2022 season.
Rather than picking games straight up and/or using confidence points, the three decided to incorporate sportsbooks by picking games against the spread. At 5pm every Wednesday, a couple hours before showtime, spreads were gathered from BetMGM's sportsbook and all picks were made against those, with ballots sent to fans of the show with the same spreads for them to pick against.
Cory and Evan each got 10 picks correct in the opening week to take the lead, but all three hosts were separated by just one point following each of the first four weeks of the season.
In Week 5, Evan scored got some separation when he outscored Eric by three and Cory by four points, taking a 43-40-40 lead on the season.
The three continued to record similar point totals, never separated by more than two points in any given week, for the next several rounds until, in Week 11, Evan had a particuarly poor week with just four correct picks compared to eight for Eric and ten for Cory.
After that, Evan didn't win any week until Week 18, and though he was able to salvage second place for the regular season, there was quite a gap between him and first place.
Ultimately, consistency through the season served Cory well. He didn't win all that many weekly contests, but when he didn't he virtually always finished a close second.
After waiting until Year 3 of the podcast's confidence points contest to win the title, Cory went back-to-back and won Year 1 of our spread picks pool.

Fan Contest
Following two seasons of The Sportsballers Pocast hosting fan contests for its confidence picks and Cory tabulating results by hand, for the 2022 season we created Google Form ballots to automate the process and it worked quite well.
Eight people submitted ballots over the course of the season, though only a few stuck threw the entire season.
For the second year in a row, James Dailey won the regular season fan contest, but he had some competition and wound up having to share the fan title after Andrew Perez scored the most points in the postseason to erase his deficit.
T1. James Dailey - 129 points (5 playoff points)
T1. Andrew Perez - 129 points (8 playoff points)
3. Sean Kennedy - 120 points (5 playoff points)
