Entering the second season of The Sportsballers Podcast, our hosts decided to spice things up a bit. Rather than simply picking every game straight up and awarding points for games where one of us broke with concensus, we incorportated confidence points. In a normal week with no byes, confidence points were to be assigned from 1 point (least confident pick) to 16 points (most confident point). A perfect score in such a week is 136 points.
Eric and Evan had a strong opening week with 113 and 111 points, respectively while Cory failed to hit triple digits. Cory's first 100-point week came in Week 3 and by Week 6 he was no longer alone in last place.
After tying Eric for second, he outscored him by 10 points in Week 7, part of a four-week streak in which Cory was the group's highest scorer.
It wasn't enough to make a challenge at Evan, who'd had such a strong start that even when Eric passed Cory back in Week 10, Evan held an 8-point advantage over second place.
A week later, however, Eric scored 99 points to Evan's 90, taking a one-point lead over Evan in the contest while extending his advantage over Cory to 17 points.
Evan took the lead back and though his lead grew and shrank over the course of the final weeks of the regular season, he held a one-point advantage when Week 17 came to a close.
Though Cory took advantage of a lone-wolf Super Bowl pick to win the playoff contest, it was not enough to climb out of last place for the season.
