This past week was quite a treat for football fans with one of the biggest offensive explosions in recent memory. Our league saw its highest single-week point total since the 2021 season as fantasy-relevant players were the focal points of most offenses.
As always, half of our league was unable to fully enjoy this explosion. In fact, one manager in particular saw this week leading into Halloweek as more of a trick than anything.
There are some statistics about the game that will come up later in the template, but I do want to point out here that the matchup between Alex Mayo and Alex Kincaid featured five of the six positional weekly award winners for Week 8. Their matchup joins the Top 5 highest scoring matches in AFL history. Of the other four highest scoring regular season games, none had more than two positional award winners.
Their matchup came very close to being the 11th matchup in AFL history between the top two scorers of the week. A strip sack by T.J. Watt and an interception by Beanie Bishop to end the last two Giants drives on Monday Night Football were just enough to push Sean Kennedy ahead of Mayo for the week. Still, this was remarkably bad luck in this year's only Battle of the Alexes.
Mayo's 146.02 points are the second most ever scored in a losing effort in league history, fewer only than Stephen April's 146.99 points in a Week 4 loss a season ago.
By leading the league in scoring this week, Kincaid became the eighth manager in AFL history with 10 Tom Brady Awards, and he was the fifth fastest to the mark, doing it in 81 weeks. This is faster than Stephen April (89 weeks), Sean Kennedy (103 weeks), and Cory Puffett (122 weeks).
All-time H2H: Evan leads series 8-6
Sean had two players in his starting lineup score fewer than five points while Evan had only one score fewer than 10 points. Despite this, Sean blew out his opponent by nearly 35 points!
Brock Purdy, Josh Jacobs, and Joe Mixon led the way with a strong Monday night outing by Pittsburgh’s defense putting the exclamation point on a victory that launched Sean to the best record in the league on the back side of the halfway mark of the 2024 season.
This was Sean’s third win of the season in a Game of the Week and the 12th of his career. He is now 12-12 all-time when in the AFL’s highlighted matchup while Evan falls to 16-17, thanks largely to Kyler Murray being his only player with more than 15 points.
All-time H2H: Series tied 3-3
All-time H2H: Cory leads series 9-6
All-time H2H: William leads series 10-6
All-time H2H: Stephen leads series 5-4
All-time H2H: Anthony leads series 1-0

IR Report
In our league, any player can be placed on IR regardless of injury designation. Once on IR, the player cannot be moved, dropped, or traded for a minimum of three weeks.
After Week 1, IR placements are retroactive to the prior week as long as the player was already on the team's roster but was not in the starting lineup during that prior week. This means those players will be eligible to come off IR after just a two-week stay.
TAXI Report
In our league, any rookie can be placed on the TAXI squad at any time.
Rookies placed on the TAXI on or before Week 8, who remain there without ever being removed until the end of the Sabol Bowl, are eligible as TAXI Keepers for the following year, so long as they never appeared in a starting lineup prior to Week 8. Each manager is permitted to designate one TAXI Keeper in addition to their Traditional Keeper.
