I mentioned last week that I probably wouldn't regularly write a preamble for these write-ups, but I did want to point out a few interesting things I noticed from Week 2 that don't have a set place in my recap template.
Anthony Battle made a pretty savvy move Monday evening when he picked up Kareem Hunt. Real life free agents never lock during the week, so they remain free agents until FleaFlicker processes the previous week and opens up the next one. So when many of our managers were looking to pick up a Chiefs running back after Isiah Pacheco got hurt, we had to settle for placing claims for Carson Steele or Samaje Perine instead of the player who ultimately was signed to Kansas City's practice squad on Tuesday afternoon.
Hunt likely won't be active for this week's game, but considering Pacheco will be out for about two months, that leaves plenty of time for Hunt to establish a role for himself in this offense and offer some fantasy value for Ant, who needs all the value he can get based on this week's power ranking tumble.
Our 100-point club for the 2024 season got a lot smaller this week. In each of the first two weeks of the season, we've had eight managers score at least 100 points and four fail to reach that mark. The four who failed to hit that threshold in Week 2 were a different four from those who fell below that mark in Week 1, so we're already down to just four managers who have scored 100 points in every week this season.
In our league's history, we've never seen all 12 managers fail to reach that mark before at some point before Week 6. That Week 6 example came in 2015, when the threshold to hit was 88.9 points rather than 100 points (stat collection for this benchmark was established after we'd moved to 9 starting roster spots so an adjustment was made for earlier seasons) and Andrew Perez was the last manager to fall below that threshold after making it through Week 5.
I also need to shout out rookie wide receivers. Prior to Justin Jefferson in 2020, it was pretty much a law of nature that even the best rookie wide receivers would not be fantasy relevant until at least Week 8. Even for Jefferson, he was much better in the second half of his rookie season, but he did have a pair of 20+ outings in the first half of that campain.
Now we regularly see rookie wide receivers turn in fantasy-relevant performanecs early in the year and this week was a prime example. While one performance went to waste in our league, Marvin Harrison Jr and Malik Nabers were the top two receivers in fantasy for the week based on our scoring settings. In pure PPR scoring, they were the WR1 and WR3, respectively. That's impressive production and incredibly valuable for managers in a season where passing touchdowns for the first two weeks are at a 6-year low (at least).
All-time H2H: Sean leads series 6-1
The best part of the week for Alex may have been when his matchup ended and he could rest assured that his lineup error of benching Kyren Williams (who played) instead of Kenneth Walker (who had been doubtful and ultimately was inactive) did not bite him in the ass.
Â
Williams had a pedestrian 13.51 points, not nearly enough to make up the 24.68-point deficit. The receiving duo of Justin Jefferson and Nico Collins carried Sean to a second straight win to open the campaign. Both scored in the low 20s, with 16.45 of Jefferson’s total coming from a 97-yard touchdown catch and run in the second quarter against San Francisco.
All-time H2H: Stephen leads series 5-3
All-time H2H: William leads series 15-6
All-time H2H: Alex leads series 4-2
All-time H2H: Jeffery leads series 1-0
All-time H2H: Eric leads series 9-6
Free Agent All-Stars vs Tom Brady Award Winner
Every week, we take the best possible lineup made of players who were available on waivers in the AFL at the end of the week and compare it to the top scoring team of the week in our league. Included percentages for the Free Agent All-Star players represent the percentage of FleaFlicker leagues in which each the player was rostered as of data gathering (usually Tuesday morning).
Note: Derek Carr and Alec Pierce both repeated as members of the Free Agent All-Star team from Week 1.
Final Score:
Free Agent All-Stars – 149.52
Stephen April – 152.33
YTD Tom Brady Award Winner Record: 1-1
IR Report
In our league, any player can be placed on IR regardless of injury designation. Once on IR, the player cannot be moved, dropped, or traded for a minimum of three weeks.
After Week 1, IR placements are retroactive (retro) to the prior week as long as the player was already on the team's roster but was not in the starting lineup during that prior week. This means those players will be eligible to come off IR after just a two-week stay.

Chuck Knox Award (Best Coach) Stephen April #11 in his career (T-5th most all-time)
Stephen was the only manager in the league to finish with positive coaching points in Week 2, earning a league-high 1.58 points after succeeding on two of his three coaching risks. He cost his team 7.52 points by starting Matthew Stafford at QB instead of Joe Burrow, but he more than made up for that by picking up Zach Ertz intead of Noah Fant for a TE spot start (6.50 points) and by starting Demarcus Robinson at WR instead of Courtland Sutton (2.60 points).
Hue Jackson Award (Worst Coach) Brandon Saunders #5 in his career
Brandon cost his team a win and a league-high 15.57 points this week after failing on one of his two coaching risks. Thought he earned 5.30 points with his decision to add Chris Boswell instead of Joshua Karty for a Week 2 start at kicker, he cost his team 20.87 points by activating Xavier Worthy from his TAXI instead of Malik Nabers for a start at WR.
Honorable Mention: Cory Puffett also cost his team a win this week by failing on his only coaching risk. He started Jerry Jeudy instead of Rashid Shaheed at WR. He avoided the Hue Jackson Award because he lost fewer coaching points than Brandon with just a 10.29-point loss.
Managers took a combined 16 coaching risks this week and were successful on 9. The league's net point differential was -44.56
To date in 2024, the AFL has a .519 success rate on 27 total coaching risks with a -34.99 point differential

Stephen April 152.33 Points (#70 all-time)
This is the highest score of the 2024 season so far
The AFL scored 1,323.28 points in Week 2
This does not rank in the Top 50 in league history out of 157 regular season weeks
Stephen April led the league in scoring this week after winning the David Carr Award a week ago. This is the 7th time in league history this has happened.
Note: this does not count three instances of a team ending the season as the low scorer and then winning the Week 1 Tom Brady Award the next year
Alex Mayo and Cory Puffett extended their league-leading active streaks of 100-point games to 6
Will Massimini and Brandon Saunders both ended their league-leading active droughts of 100-point games at 2
This was one game shy of Will's career long
There is no active drought longer than the one game for the four managers who failed to reach 100 points in Week 2
