As we get set to begin the final third of the 2024 regular season, we have our first Elimination Watch of the campaign. Eric Meyer faces Cory Puffett in the second matchup of their inter-division rivalry this week.
Back in Week 5, Eric snapped a six-game losing streak against Cory, knotting their all-time head-to-head at seven games apiece. If Cory gets revenge for that loss, he will force Eric to watch the five other Week 11 contests to determine if his fate will be sealed. In that event, the following three outcomes would combine to eliminate Eric from playoff contention:
Evan Ash beats Brandon Saunders
Alex Kincaid beats William Battle
Stephen April beats Anthony Battle -OR- Alex Mayo AND Jeffery McDonald beat Sean Kennedy and Will Massimini, respectively
Now, that is a pretty long list of outcomes that would have to come to fruition. Still, with four weeks left to play after the one coming up, it's not great when you're already staring down the barrel.
Of course, a recap is really intended to look back on the previous week rather than looking ahead to what is to come. So let's talk quickly about Stephen's Week 10 performance, because it is quite anamalous. His team scored 165.65 points last week, which is the highest game total of the season so far. Despite this, our other 11 managers combined with him to record our lowest league-wide total of the season.
That's the power of the Joe Burrow-Ja'Marr Chase stack. Generally, I'm not spending time talking about historical performances this year, instead just letting them speak for themselves in the leaderboard section below. But this one deserves a little extra attention.
Ja'Marr Chase on Thursday night caught 11 passes for 264 yards and 3 touchdowns. He earned a first down on all 11 off his receptions. He finished the game with 52.65 points, a new AFL wide receiver record. It breaks the previous record of 51.40 points set by Tyreek Hill in Week 12 of the 2020 season while playing for Anthony Battle.
This was the second 50-point game in AFL history by a non-running back and Chase now has two of the top three wide receiver scores in AFL history. He previous set the AFL's #2 mark in Week 5 of the 2023 season with a 47.90-point outing for Sean Kennedy.
All-time H2H: Sean leads series 9-7
After getting a lucky Week 9 victory, Sean’s luck ran out in Week 10 as he barely snuck into the top six scorers but failed to reach triple digits and lost for the second time this season. Brock Purdy was the matchup’s top scorer, but it wasn’t enough for Sean to overcome three players scoring fewer than five points in his lineup.
Â
Instead, Josh Allen and George Pickens led a strong supporting cast, including the Scott O’Brien Award winner, to a fourth straight win and a two-game cushion in the AFL West.
Â
Anthony and Sean each entered the week .500 in their careers when playing in the game of the week. Anthony earned his 18th career Peyton Manning Award, the second most in league history, while Sean fell to 12-13 in his career.
All-time H2H: Stephen leads series 1-0
All-time H2H: William leads series 8-4
All-time H2H: Cory leads series 8-6
All-time H2H: Alex leads series 3-2
All-time H2H: Alex leads series 6-1
Free Agent All-Stars vs Tom Brady Award Winner
Every week, we take the best possible lineup made of players who were available on waivers in the AFL at the end of the week and compare it to the top scoring team of the week in our league. Included percentages for the Free Agent All-Star players represent the percentage of FleaFlicker leagues in which each the player was rostered as of data gathering (usually Tuesday morning).
Final Score:
Free Agent All-Stars – 162.41
Stephen April – 165.65
YTD Tom Brady Award Winner Record: 3-7
Stephen now has two of the three manager wins against the FA All-Stars this year
IR Report
In our league, any player can be placed on IR regardless of injury designation. Once on IR, the player cannot be moved, dropped, or traded for a minimum of three weeks.
After Week 1, IR placements are retroactive to the prior week as long as the player was already on the team's roster but was not in the starting lineup during that prior week. This means those players will be eligible to come off IR after just a two-week stay.
TAXI Report
In our league, any rookie can be placed on the TAXI squad at any time.
Rookies placed on the TAXI on or before Week 8, who remain there without ever being removed until the end of the Sabol Bowl, are eligible as TAXI Keepers for the following year, so long as they never appeared in a starting lineup prior to Week 8. Each manager is permitted to designate one TAXI Keeper in addition to their Traditional Keeper.

#12 Power Ranking Eric Meyer #14 in his career
Chuck Knox Award (Best Coach) Brandon Saunders #13 in his career (t-3rd most all-time)
By succeeding on one of two coaching risks, Brandon earned a league-high 5.21 points in Week 10. For the first time in several weeks, his decision to keep Malik Nabers on his TAXI backfired as he outscored Zay Flowers by 2.38 points. He made that up and more by picking up Mac Jones instead of Cooper Rush to start at quarterback as Jones outscored Rush by 7.59 points.
Hue Jackson Award (Worst Coach) Will Massimini #8 in his career
With just one failed coaching risk, Will cost his team 6.19 points and a win. He is protecting Bucky Irving's TAXI keeper status, but his choice to start Darnell Mooney instead of him cost him a Week 10 victory.
Honorable Mention: Eric Meyer cost his team a league high 18.17 points by failing on two of his three coaching risks. He did earn 0.43 points by continuing to start C.J. Stroud over his presumed TAXI keeper, Jayden Daniels. But he cost his team 9.26 points by picking up Justice Hill instead of Jaylen Warren for a spot start and another 9.34 points by trading away the Minnesota Vikings defense and instead starting Baltimore's unit.
Managers took a combined 16 coaching risks this week and were successful on 7. The league's net point differential was -27.89
To date in 2024, the AFL has a .444 success rate on 151 total coaching risks with a -334.55 point differential, which remains the worst since the stat began being tracked in 2016
