Between taking care of a newborn, a wife recovering from a major medical event, and getting myself back into gear with work, I just am not going to have the time I usually have for writing recaps this year.
I'm still committed to documenting our league's history though, so I'll be following a template each week to provide you the information that stands out to me. The big thing that will be missing is the detailed breakdowns of each matchup and, unless something really stands out that doesn't fit into the template, the introduction to my weekly recaps.
I'll also be nixing my matchup preview articles this year. The main purpose they served was for everyone to know what their coaching risks currently looked like. In case anybody doesn't know how I define those risks:
As games kick off, I look at every player's projection on your roster. If you have a player on your bench projected to outscore a starter their positional eligibility would allow them to replace, I consider that a coaching risk. If you add a player off waivers, and another free agent at the same position has a higher projection than one of your starters they could replace, I also consider that to be a coaching risk.
Once I've gathered those coaching risks, doing my best to look for updated projections within 30 minutes of each kickoff window, I look at the differences in those players' point totals. If the player you chose to start outscores the player FleaFlicker would have suggested, you earn positive points toward your coaching score. If the reverse is true, you earn negative points toward your coaching score. Keep in mind that sometimes players' projections change after their games begin (and sometimes even after their games end), so looking at them after the fact may not give you the same results I use for my official record-keeping.
After this week, our weekly recaps will always begin with power rankings (the reverse of previous years). This is because I don't want to keep using the search/replace funtion every week to change our team names to our real names before uploading screenshots to the article. This way, anybody reading can see the team names and manager names right at the top each week before we use team names the rest of the way in the article.
With all that said let's jump into our first recap of the season!
All-time H2H: Brandon leads series 4-3
Any time you get a record-setting performance from a kicker, you hope the rest of your lineup can take advantage.
Â
That’s just what Alex Mayo’s team did as he made it two straight seasons of the AFL’s defending champion falling to the runner-up in the season-opening game of the week.
Â
Jake Moody set a new AFL record for kickers when he made six field goals, five of them from deeper than 30 yards. He broke the previous record by more than a full point!
Â
With strong 20-point performances from Rhamondre Stevenson and A.J. Brown plus a few complementary outings of more than 15 points, Alex got his revenge on Brandon in decisive fashion, winning by more than 50 points and potentially setting up a very interesting grudge match when the two meet again in Week 5.
All-time H2H: Jeffery leads series 1-0
All-time H2H: Sean leads series 11-5
All-time H2H: Evan leads series 11-5
All-time H2H: Stephen leads series 6-5
All-time H2H: Cory leads series 10-4
Free Agent All-Stars vs Tom Brady Award Winner
Every week, we take the best possible lineup made of players who were available on waivers in the AFL at the end of the week and compare it to the top scoring team of the week in our league. Included percentages for the Free Agent All-Star players represent the percentage of FleaFlicker leagues in which each the player was rostered as of data gathering (usually Tuesday morning).
Final Score:
Free Agent All-Stars – 174.95
Stephen April – 151.03
YTD Tom Brady Award Winner Record: 0-1
IR Report
In our league, any player can be placed on IR regardless of injury designation. Once on IR, the player cannot be moved, dropped, or traded for a minimum of three weeks.
After Week 1, IR placements are retroactive to the prior week as long as the player was already on the team's roster but was not in the starting lineup during that prior week. This means those players will be eligible to come off IR after just a two-week stay.

He more than made up for that with his decision to start Jake Moody over Tyler Bass at kicker, which earned him 15.70 points.
Hue Jackson Award (Worst Coach) Alex Kincaid #8 in his career (T-4th most all-time)
The other Alex failed on his lone coaching risk, starting Terry McLaurin over Tank Dell, to cost himself a league-high 5.31 points.
