Our first set of divisional matchups are in the books, now we go back outside of the division for Week 4, our second to last week before bye weeks begin wreaking havoc on weekly lineups.
We only have one matchup this week between managers with winning records, and it’ll be our game of the week.
Let’s get into our game-by-game previews!
Evan leads all-time series 7-6
Cory is second in the AFL in scoring this season and has one of the strongest rosters in the AFL through three weeks. Evan is coming off back-to-back weeks as the league’s #3 scorer in his AFL title defense.
An unlucky Week 3 loss balanced a lucky Week 1 win for Evan. He made a wise decision last week starting Geno Smith in Carson Wentz’s place. Will he do it again?
Cory has some injuries to keep an eye on entering Week4. Christian McCaffrey and Miles Sanders are both questionable with lower body injuries and Jaylen Waddle is expected to play but is dealing with a groin injury ahead of Thursday Night Football.
Cory will also be watching Keenan Allen’s progress as he returns from a hamstring injury and Evan may consider starting Allen Lazard if his ankle is good to go.
Current Coaching Risks
Evan should be starting Geno Smith again this week instead of Carson Wentz, but he has the Washington quarterback in his lineup. FleaFlicker also suggests, even with him still questionable to play, that Lazard would be the better FLEX play than Tony Pollard.
Cory has no coaching risks based on his current lineup and current FleaFlicker projections.
All-time series tied 1-1
Coming off a very narrow victory, Eric will look to pull to .500 against Alex, who followed up two fantastic weeks to begin the year with a serious dud in Week 3. He was lucky to come away with a win.
Current projections have Eric as nearly a 10-point favorite in this game, but he may need to be concerned that CeeDee Lamb is being over-projected with FleaFlicker giving him 14.58 expected points. Meanwhile a track meet in Baltimore could give Josh Allen significantly more than the 23.17 he’s currently projected to get.
Eric has injuries to Dalvin Cook (shoulder), AJ Dillon (knee), and Michael Thomas (foot) to track this week while both of Alex’s tight ends, Dawson Knox and Daulton Schultz, are dealing with injuries that have them listed as questionable.
Current Coaching Risks
Eric has no coaching risks based on his current lineup and current FleaFlicker projections.
Alex should be starting Raheem Mostert at FLEX instead of Corey Davis according to current projections. FleaFlicker also suggests he should be starting Tyler Bass at kicker and the Indianapolis Colts at defense instead of Evan McPherson and the Buffalo Bills. And even though he was inactive last week, Daulton Schultz is projected to score more points than Dawson Knox, so assuming they are both active, FleaFlicker says Alex is currently slotting the wrong tight end into his lineup.
Sean leads all-time series 3-1
Sean has one of the strongest teams in the AFL. He’s currently #3 in the league’s power rankings but he seems destined to reach the top spot if his team can stay healthy. So far so good in that department as the only injuries he has to manager this week are the hip injury to Dameon Pierce and MVS’s abdominal injury.
Alex has been doing a lot this week, trying to get either Jalen Hurts or Lamar Jackson on his team (it wouldn’t surprise me if he’s also made offers to Alex Mayo for Josh Allen), and it makes sense. What a nightmare to have to try and guess week-by-week whether Kirk Cousins or Derek Carr, two virtually identical quarterbacks with similar offenses, will have the better outing.
Alex also has to keep an eye on injuries to David Montgomery (ankle), DeVonta Smith (back), and Hunter Renfrow (concussion) in the leadup to Week 4.
Current Coaching Risks
Alex should be starting Derek Carr instead of Kirk Cousins according to FleaFlicker. The platform also recommends he start Rhamondre Stevenson at FLEX in place of Jahan Dotson.
Sean may have to make a difficult decision at some point. He’s got the best TAXI player in the league currently in Drake London, but will he need to pull him into his lineup at some point and render him ineligible as a second keeper in 2023? FleaFlicker says he should be there this week in place of Khalil Herbert.
William leads all-time series 11-5
Brandon’s team is currently a 26-point favorite in this matchup, the most-played matchup in AFL history. This is the 17th meeting between Brandon and William, who had been division rivals in each of the past six years before finally being split apart in 2022.
Brandon just faced Anthony last week for the 15th time and when they play for the 16th time in Week 13, that will be the second most-played matchup in AFL history.
This week, Brandon made a huge splash in free agency when he spent $82 out of his $200 free agent acquisition budget on Romeo Doubs, the rookie Packers wide receiver. He’s currently sitting on Brandon’s bench, though his projected point total for the week is not far behind Rashod Bateman’s. Considering nobody else even bid double digits on Doubs, does Brandon view him as a potential every-week starter going forward? Time will tell.
A big part of the reason William is currently such a big underdog in this matchup is that he has D’Andre Swift slotted into one of his FLEX spots. He’s questionable with a shoulder injury but Dan Campbell isn’t optimistic about his chances of playing and FleaFlicker doesn’t even have a projected point total for him. William will also be tracking T.J. Hockenson’s foot injury this week. He’s got David Njoku, following his 20-point performance in Week 3, ready to go if the Lions tight end can’t go.
Current Coaching Risks
William has a couple of coaching risks as things currently stand. With Swift seemingly closer to doubtful than questionable, DK Metcalf is FleaFlicker’s recommended FLEX start. The platform also says Harrison Butker should be slotted into the kicker spot for Younghoe Koo assuming his ankle is good to go. The Chiefs kicker practiced Wednesday.
Brandon dropped Wil Lutz this week, who now has the second highest projection among kickers on the waiver wire. He added Eddy Pineiro and currently has him in his starting lineup, but Lutz is projected to outscore him and, if Brandon was going to swap kickers, FleaFlicker says Joey Slye should have been Brandon’s waiver claim.
Andrew leads all-time series 6-4
Anthony is less than a 1.5-point favorite as projections currently stand, the narrowest line of the week. Andrew’s tight end position is pretty rough with Hayden Hurst the only one on his roster. He’s currently just the TE23 in the AFL.
Elsewhere, though, Andrew’s roster still looks pretty good, but his players have underperformed, leaving him last in the league in scoring through three games. He’s hoping that guys like Joe Mixon, Deebo Samuel, and Mike Evans can start climbing their positional rankings and get closer to what he drafted them to be for him.
Anthony has a couple of injuries to important players he has to manage this week. Alvin Kamara has a rib injury and is questionable for the NFL’s first international tilt of the season and Amon-Ra St. Brown has an ankle injury and didn’t practice Wednesday.
Current Coaching Risks
Anthony has just one coaching risk this week; FleaFlicker says he should be starting Tom Brady instead of Jared Goff at quarterback.
Andrew currently has Marquise Brown slotted into a wide receiver slot, but Gabe Davis, who has been a limited participant in practice with an ankle injury, should replace him if he plays according to FleaFlicker.
Will leads all-time series 3-2
Coming off his third unlucky loss in three weeks, Stephen doesn’t seem like he’s playing anymore. His team has the highest current projection in the AFL for Week 4. He’s hoping Jonathan Taylor will be good to go as the start Colts running back, who he just traded for last week, is dealing with a toe injury.
He’s also watching the injury situations for J.K. Dobbins (chest) and Chris Godwin (hamstring) as he decides whether one of them should be swapped into his lineup.
Will has a bit of a frustrating situation at quarterback right now. Justin Herbert probably shouldn’t be playing right now considering the way he looked against Jacksonville this past week, but if he plays there’s no way Will can sub in Ryan Tannehill for the Chargers signal caller.
Wide receiver is a huge area of weakness for Will right now, so he needs his running backs to pick up the slack. To that end, he’s hoping James Conner isn’t limited Sunday by his knee injury; he doesn’t have a reliable player on his bench to pivot to if Conner can’t go.
Current Coaching Risks
Will dropped the Pittsburgh Steelers defense this week and added the Minnesota Vikings, slotting them into his lineup for this game. That is a coaching risk according to FleaFlicker. If he really wanted to pivot away from the Watt-less Steelers unit, the platform suggests the New York Giants would have been the team to add; their current projection is identical to the Steelers.
Stephen has no coaching risks based on his current lineup and current FleaFlicker projections.
Miami at Cincinnati kicks off Week 4 tonight. There are a number of fantasy-relevant players involved, including several who are dealing with injuries, so there could be a flurry of lineup updates in the hours leading up to kickoff. Good luck to everyone in Week 4!
