After last week, Eric Meyer was the only owner in our league this season with a chance to unseat his 2016 team and its incredible 124-30 breakdown. With his 8-3 breakdown this week, that team can pop the champagne because this year’s iteration now has 31 breakdown losses.
Adam Perez led the league in scoring for the third time in his four years in the league and deserves some special recognition this week because his is the highest score ever seen in a regular season AFL matchup. It wasn’t quite enough to dig him out of the 12th spot in this week’s power rankings.
It also didn’t help his playoff chances much as he still faces elimination this week. On a brighter note, at least Adam knows his team is capable of big games. That could come in handy if he winds up in the bottom bracket of the consolation ladder. He’s looking to avoid a second straight Snyder medal, our version of The League’s Sacko.
Adam’s 181.4 points is the second highest score ever seen in any AFL game. The only higher score was Eric’s 185.0-point performance in the AFL championship game in 2016.
Sean Kennedy scored 162.3 points, good for 7th in our league’s history and Stephen April scored 158.6 points, tied for 12th all-time.
Curiously, the three highest scored of the week all came from teams that are currently on the brink of elimination from the playoffs, or, in Stephen’s case, very much outside looking in.
Anthony Battle scored 132.6 points, which doesn’t crack our league’s top 75 single-game team scores but is the 3rd highest losing score in league history. The two scored above his both came this season.
So far this season, our teams have scored 14289.3 points. With an average scoring week, we will overtake the 2013 and 2014 13-game seasons this week. We are on pace to break 20,000 points for the first time ever. To put things in perspective, the average weekly point total for our league right now is 99.7 points more than in 2016 when we set our current record of 18608.9 points.
This was a big week for record-book entries. Ben Roethlisberger scored 37.9 points, good to tie for 15th on the all-time quarterback list.
Nick Chubb joins the running back list at number 20 after scoring 36.4 points on Stephen’s roster. David Johnson scored 35.9 points for Eric to take over the 25th spot on the RB list, Christian McCaffrey scored 35.7 points for Anthony to take over 28th, and Ezekiel Elliott moves into a tie for 29th after scoring 35.6 points for Adam.
Adam also had Zach Ertz who scored 33.5 points, which is good for 2nd all-time on the tight end list, trailing only Rob Gronkowski’s 36.5-point performance for Evan Ash in Week 8 of the 2014 season. And finally, Eric Ebron scored 26.7 points for Anthony, good for 20th on that tight end list.
In all, our 12 teams totaled 1460.5 points this week, the third highest total in our league’s 78-week run. We also posted the highest average winning score ever at 142.9, breaking our old record of 137.8 points per winning team set back in Week 4. Meanwhile, our losing teams averaged only 100.5 points, the lowest average losing score of the top 13 scoring weeks in league history, eight of which have come this year.
Will Massimini and Evan became the ninth and tenth members of the league to fall below the 100-point threshold for a week this season. Only Eric and Brandon Saunders have still scored at least 100 points every single week this year.
Eric’s lowest score of the season came in week 7 when he scored 112.6 points against Andrew Perez. Brandon has scored fewer than 110 points three times this season, including each of the past two weeks.
Our defensive streamer of the week is Sean, who received 17 points from the Green Bay Packers defense. Cory is our kicker streamer of the week after getting 15 points from New Orleans Saints kicker, Wil Lutz.
Through 10 weeks, our defensive spread is 87 points. Will leads all owners with 167 points from the defensive position while Adam is in last place with 80 points.
Our defensive spread, meanwhile, is 37 points. Adam is our new leader in that competition with 93 points while Eric trails with 56.
We had one unlucky loser and one lucky winner this week. Our unlucky losing team is Anthony, who had a 7-4 breakdown but faced Eric, who had an 8-3 breakdown and beat Anthony by less than three points.
Our lucky winner, meanwhile, was Brandon. He had a 4-7 breakdown but was matched up with Evan, who was our lowest scorer this week, totaling less than 80 points.
Evan is the fourth owner to post a game with less than 80 points. Sean is the only owner who failed to reach 80 in multiple games this season.
Last week, Brandon was tied with Evan as our luckiest team on the season. He takes sole possession of that title as he now sits at 2.00 WAE. His breakdown on the season is 55-55, suggesting a record of 5-5, but he is 7-3. Evan, after losing with a 0-11 breakdown, remains at 1.36 WAE, where he was last week.
Despite a poor outing of his own, Will falls even further to the unlucky side of things with a WBE up to 3.27 now. Anthony moves from third to second on that list at 1.32 WBE.
This was a pretty good coaching week overall. Several teams went chalk and those who went against ESPN recommendations didn’t gain or suffer much from their decisions.
Danny wins the distinction of coach of the week for the second week in a row. He made one coaching risk and earned 7.3 points by starting Duke Johnson Jr. instead of Kenyan Drake at running back.
Andrew was our worst coach of the week but only cost his team 6 points with his failed coaching risk, starting Jordy Nelson at wide receiver instead of bumping DeSean Jackson to receiver and starting Greg Olsen at flex.
In a very unusual week, five owners – Adam, Andrew, Anthony, Eric, and Sean – each had three players in the top five at their positions. Stephen had two such players. Meanwhile, threeowners – Cory, Evan, and William Battle – had nosuch players. This isn’t something I track in an easily accessible way, but I can’t ever remember having three owners with no players on that list in a week.

Game of the Week: Evan Ash at Brandon Saunders
In the lowest-scoring game this week, Brandon managed to pull even at the top of his division with a win over one of the strongest teams this season, taking advantage of a rare weak outing by Evan.
