Danny H. had arguably the best team all season. He finished the regular season tied for the best record in the league at 11-2. He scored at least 100 points in eight of thirteen games in the regular season and only once failed to score 90 points. That was in Week 8 when Andre Johnson was on bye, Kenbrell Thompkins failed to score and Shaun Suisham scored just one point. He still won that game, 77.5-58.5.
Both of his losses came in games where his score fell in the 90s. The first came in Week 4 when he lost to the other 11-2 team in the league by a score of 113.4-92.7. The second loss came in the final game of the regular season against a division rival by a similar score, 114.3-94.1.
In the conference championship, Danny faced Evan A., who had beaten him in Week 4. Both teams scored 130 points, but Danny managed to win on the strength of huge games by Jamaal Charles, Shane Vereen, Antonio Brown and Andre Johnson. Even though Evan had big games of his own from Peyton Manning and LeSean McCoy, his trio of Monday night contestants - Demarco Murray, Alshon Jeffery and Dan Bailey – fell just short in a 134.5-131.8 win for Danny.
Coming off one 30-point performance, nobody could have expected what Jamaal Charles pulled in the championship game. An absolutely incredible 55.5-point performance against the Oakland Raiders helped Danny take back control of the game after Brandon S. had Greg Jennings score 26.7 against the Philadelphia Eagles. That big game out of Charles put the game just about out of reach, and by the time Sunday Night Football ended, Danny won the first AFL league championship, 122.1-103.7.
Here is the box score for the championship game (team names have been changed to the names of their owners):
Sabol Bowl I
Danny Hatcher (11-2) vs Brandon Saunders (6-7)
MVP: Jamaal Charles
