Happy Father's Day! Some serendipitous scheduling matched our league's four dads against our four non-dads this week, and dad power ruled the day!
Rich can clinch his spot in the playoffs this week with a win and a number of scenarios across the other three matchups. There are at least 10 different combinations of outcomes for those other matchups that it's not even worth listing them out. If he beats Sam this week, he's virtually guaranteed to lock up a playoff spot.
Sean, meanwhile, faces the threat of elimination this week. A loss to Alex with either a win or tie by Sam against Rich would officially end Sean's miniscule hopes.
Players of the Week
Catcher - Dillon Dingler, 9.50 points (Sam Martin)
1st Baseman - Nick Kurtz, 12.95 points (Sam Martin)
2nd Baseman - Ozzie Albies, 6.65 points (Sean Kennedy)
3rd Baseman - Casey Schmitt, 8.15 points (Rich Blorstad)
Shortstop - Zach Neto, 11.15 points (Sean Kennedy)
OF - Pete Crow-Armstrong, 16.05 points (Eric Meyer)
UTIL - Bryce Harper, 10.75 points (Stephen April)
SP - Kyle Bradish, 12.80 points (Alex Mayo)
RP - Andres Munoz, 12.15 points (Alex Mayo)
There's no slowing down Nick Kurtz, who now has the most Paul Goldschmidt Awards this season, including four in the past six weeks.
Casey Schmitt earned the first player of the week award of his career. Meanwhile Pete Crow-Armstrong and Bryce Harper, respectively, had the season's first two cycles and rode those performances to awards at their respecitive lineup positions.
It was a rough week for pitching this week. Bradish had just one start this week but outperformed even the handful of two-start pitchers.
All-time H2H: Cory leads series 11-7
This Scully Cup I rematch was low-scoring through much of the week before an explosive Sunday in which Cory and Sam were the two highest scoring managers of the day.
The only matchup of the week in which both managers maximized their allotment of pitcher starts, it was also the matchup featuring the highest losing score (though there were no unlucky losers this week) and the narrowest margin of victory.
Ultimately, this contest came down to pitching. While Nick Kurtz and Dillon Dingler helped pace Sam’s Lowlanders to a double-digit advantage over Cory’s Fireflies in the hitting department, Sam’s pitching staff let him down in a big way, giving up 30 earned runs and 13 dingers over 41.2 innings of work compared to Cory’s 23 and 6 allowed over 49 innings.
Cory's top scorer: Josh Hader, 11.95 points (3 appearances)
Sam's top scorer: Nick Kurtz, 12.95 points (7 games)
All-time H2H: Rich leads series 6-0
Rich's top scorer: Ranger Suarez, 11.50 points (1 start)
Eric's top scorer: Pete Crow-Armstrong, 16.05 points (5 games)
All-time H2H: Stephen leads series 4-1
Stephen's top scorer: Logan Gilbert, 12.25 points (1 start)
Sean's top scorer: Chase Burns, 12.10 points (2 starts)
All-time H2H: Alex leads series 8-7
Cory's top scorer: J.T. Ginn, 12.20 points (2 starts)
Alex's top scorer: Kyle Schwarber, 14.40 points (6 games)
Rich Blorstad remains atop the power rankings this week. It is his 20th #1 ranking in his career.
Alex Mayo has now been at the bottom of the power rankings for eight weeks in a row. His power score has sat at 0.0 for six straight weeks thanks in large part to eight straight weeks finishing with the league's lowest score. This is his 22nd career appearance at the bottom of the power rankings.
