Congratulations, everyone, on reaching the All-Star Break! We're down to the final four matchups of our regular season, and with just three days of games in this next matchup we will each be alotted three pitcher starts.
This past week was a bit of a doozy. For just the second time this season, six of our eight managers reached triple digits.
The other time this happened was in Week 6, and the four highest scorers still won their matchups. This week, we had some pretty crumby luck for Alex, who was the third highest scorer.
Alex had 14 home runs, only one behind the weekly leader. His team batted .301, the second highest average for the week and only seven points behind the leader. His team OPS was over 1.000, which was the highest mark of the week by 50 points! And on the mound, he set a season high for innings pitched, and his pitchers were highly effective posting a 2.59 ERA and a .986 WHIP.
Unfortunately for him, Sean's week was better in almost every respect. He hit one more home run than Alex. His was the higher batting average. He was the closest to Alex in OPS. And Sean's ERA, WHIP, and FIP were all better than Alex's.
It's the kind of bad luck you can get over if you're in a good place on the season. Unfortunately for Alex, he had such a rough first half of the campaign that he really couldn't afford to have such a terrific week go to waste. He's not yet eliminated from the playoffs, but he's now dangerously close.
Meanwhile, with his win this week, Stephen has locked up the AOA East!
Cory Puffett can lock up the AOA West with a win and loss or tie by Rich against Cory Frontin.
Meanwhile, Rich will lock up a playoff spot with a win or a tie, or by either Sean or Sam getting a win or tie in either of their matchups.
Players of the Week
Catcher - Salvador Perez, 10.00 points (Alex Mayo)
1st Baseman - Bryce Harper, 9.80 points (Alex Mayo)
2nd Baseman - Jose Altuve, 6.95 points (Cory Frontin)
3rd Baseman - Jose Ramirez, 15.85 points (Cory Frontin)
Shortstop - Elly De La Cruz, 9.60 points (Eric Meyer)
OF - Julio Rodriguez, 13.30 points (Cory Frontin)
UTIL - Brent Rooker, 10.70 points (Eric Meyer)
SP - Nathan Eovaldi, 22.70 points (Sean Kennedy)
RP - Emmanuel Clase, 14.55 points (Stephen April)
We had just one repeat positional award winner from Week 15, and that was Jose Altuve. That now makes eight straight weeks either Altuve or Ketel Marte has claimed the Ryne Sandberg Award, with five of those going to the short guy from Houston.
All-time H2H: Series tied 2-2
When two managers come out roughly even in one of two disciplines, it’s always frustrating for the manager who loses out. You start playing the “what-if” game, looking back at your draft strategy, add/drops from earlier in the season, and which position group’s you’ve emphasized.
In this case, Rich held a slight pitching advantage over his inter-division rival, with his staff outscoring Stephen’s by 6 points.
Unfortunately for him, Stephen’s offense continued their power barrage. He joined two other managers in reaching double digit home runs in back-to-back weeks, but he’s the only one who’s done it each of the past three weeks. In fact, he’s now reached double digits in each of the past seven weeks! Of the 12 batters he used in Week 16, half of them hit multiple home runs for the week.
Rich's top scorer: Garrett Crochet, 14.85 points (1 start)
Stephen's top scorer: Shota Imanaga, 18.20 points (2 starts)
All-time H2H: Sean leads series 7-6
Alex's top scorer: Freddy Peralta, 22.10 points (2 starts)
Sean's top scorer: Nathan Eovaldi, 22.70 points (2 starts)
All-time H2H: Sam leads series 9-2
Cory's top scorer: Jose Ramirez, 15.85 points (7 games)
Sam's top scorer: Merrill Kelly, 15.10 points (2 starts)
All-time H2H: Cory leads series 9-4
Eric's top scorer: Mike Trout, 11.75 points (7 games)
Cory's top scorer: Cristopher Sanchez, 21.10 points (2 starts)
We had no movement in this week's power rankings.
Cory Puffett leads the power rankings for an AOA-record 45th time.
Cory Frontin, meanwhile, is at the bottom of the power rankings for the 30th time in his career.
