Scully Cup IV Recap

Story

After a Sunday start by Wade Miley cost him four points and the first AOA title in 2021, Sam Martin’s Lowlanders didn’t come to play in 2024.

After overcoming some terrible scheduling luck, particularly in the first half of the season, to rally and earn a wild card berth, Sam recorded the second highest postseason point total in league history with 317.00 points across the two games. Considering our average weekly team scores this season were the second lowest in league history, that’s certainly saying something.

Aaron Judge led the offensive charge for Sam. After a solid wild card performance with two home runs and 13.50 fantasy points, the Yankees slugger went crazy in the title game as he vied for his second career Johnny Podres MVP award. In six games, he had eight hits, all of them for extra bases and seven of them left the yard.

Judge was an instrumental piece in Sam’s squad setting a new playoff record with 27 postseason home runs as a team. His 26 points in the title game was nearly enough to give him that second career Scully Cup MVP.

Instead, that award will go to Gavin Stone, who put together a pair of 7-inning gems in the title game, giving up just one earned run and striking out 17 to contribute 27 points to Sam’s victory.

It’s a disappointing end to the season for Sean, who has now fallen in back-to-back AOA title games. Elly De La Cruz scored 16 points to lead the Marauders as he recorded 10 base knocks in the series, tied with Lowlanders shortstop Francisco Lindor for the series high.

Congratulations to 2024 AOA Champion, Sam Martin. Sean Kennedy will have to wait at least another year to see himself atop the throne.
