As I mentioned in my intro last week, I don't have as much organized data for this league as for fantasy football, though I may have found a way to organize it a little better. Hopefully I can find some time this summer to do this, though this is probably going to be a pretty busy summer for me.
Find our game-by-game breakdown below along with the weekly summery and updated power rankings.
All-time H2H: Richard leads series 1-0
Cory won the AOA's first two titles before being unseated in 2023. Now he's off to an underwhelming start in 2024. He's finished sixth in scoring in each of the season's first two weeks.
He got a little lucky with his season-opening victory, but he found no such luck in Week 2.
Both managers made full use of their alotted pitcher starts, but Rich's relievers made two more appearances than Cory's did.
More details from this matchup can be found below in the Game of the Week summary, but that was just a part of the reason the most successful managers in the AOA's short history was defeated by someone managing just his second game in the league.
With the win, Rich secured his first career Manny Ramirez Award, dropping Cory's all-time record in games of the week to 15-8. His point total secured Rich his first Rickey Henderson Award to go with.
All-time H2H: Evan leads series 9-4
For the second straight week, Sam was matched up with the AOA's #2 scorer. And for the second straight week, Sam suffered a loss despite being among the league's top five scorers.
It's not the way he would have liked his season to begin, but as long as he can remain consistent, his luck ought to regress to the mean and allow him to climb out of this pit.
Though Sam's pitching staff recorded 38 more outs than Evan's, which acounted for an extra 19 points just from that stat, Evan's staff had a sizeable advantage in ERA and WHIP.
Coupled with a moderate offensive edge, Evan was able to hold on despite a huge comeback bid for Sam on Sunday.
All-time H2H: Andrew leads series 7-2
The 2023 runner-up is off to a solid start. After finishing third in scoring in his season opener, he was fourth in scoring in Week 2.
Considering he was matched up with the league's lowest scorer in each of the first two weeks, it was an easy win for Sean.
His Marauders finished just one home run shy of the top mark in Week 2 despite his team recording the fewest plate appearances of the week.
Andrew's team used only three of their seven alotted pitcher start, which represents just a 2.9% increase from Week 1 when he used four of ten available. He'll need to start paying closer attention is he hopes to win any games, or keep his co-commissioner status.
All-time H2H: Eric leads series 5-4-2
In the only head-to-head matchup in league history which features two ties, Cory drew just one game away from .500 against the 2023 AOA champ.
In the season opener, Cory needed a bit of luck to win. He was the second lowest scorer in the league but was fortunate enough to be matched up with the lowest scorer.
Eric outscored Cory by seven points in those opening 10 days, but he couldn't repeat that outcome in Week 2. Eric was again the third lowest scorer of the week and this time Cory snuck into the top half of scorers.
While Cory's team didn't post particularly impressive numbers on either offense or defense, Eric's pitching really let him down this week as his staff posted a 7.18 ERA and a 1.500 WHIP.
All-time H2H: Alex leads series 1-0
The only manager to have a similarly bad pitching week as Eric was Stephen. His staff posted a slightly better 5.67 ERA and a slightly worse 1.563 WHIP.
Thanks to that poor performance, as well as a poor OPS for the week, Alex was able to overcome disadvantages in plate appearances (232 to 233), home runs (3 to 7), and innings pitched (29.0 to 39.2).
Game of the Week: Richard Blorstad vs Cory Puffett
Though the matchup appeared close in the final days of the contest, a significant late-week advantage in remaining pitcher starts for Rich led to an easy victory.
Cory’s top scorer was Reid Detmers, who put together a strong 14.25-point outing on Friday. Rich got 30 points from Jose Berrios across two starts.
Berrios was an important part of a massive pitching advantage Rich had in the matchup, which included six more innings pitched and an ERA a full run better than Cory, which paired nicely with offensive advantages in home runs, runs batted in, and OPS.
